Robert began his 19 year career in newspaper advertising when the World Wide Web was relegated to a fringe group of computer zealots. As a student of journalism, he took a job at a small, Santa Cruz-based periodical to learn more about the world of newspapers and soon discovered his talents in advertising sales and design.
He returned to Sonoma County in 1997 and accepted a position at his hometown newspaper in Sonoma. During his ten years at the Sonoma Index-Tribune, working alongside the current Advertising Director of the Press Democrat his creativity assisted in the implementation of many extremely successful advertising programs and helped the paper to win numerous industry awards including the top award in adverting excellence two years in a row by the California Newspaper Advertising Executives Association. He also served on its board.
Robert became the retail advertising manager of the Sonoma paper in 2006 but decided he preferred to work directly with businesses and pursued a position with the Press Democrat in 2008. His ability to analyze the inherent needs of businesses led to the creation of a business development team and a new position. “As a strategic media planner, my role is to roll my sleeves up with my clients and really dig in to assess what is going on with their businesses, to determine what programs will do them the most good and to apply a long-term print and online strategy to make their businesses, ultimately, more successful.” Robert says he’s thrilled to be part of such a nimble, customer-centered organization employing the power and reach of the New York Times Company. “With so much changing in the world of small business advertising, especially in this volatile market, it’s encouraging to have the amazing suite of solutions the Press Democrat has put at my fingertips for my clients.”
